Our last session together we modeled how to develop a research question; your homework was to research articles on your topic/project and come up with an
Annotated Bibliography with at least three (3) sources. As we continue researching and developing our final projects, we are going to add another layer onto the process: self-reflection. At the beginning of the semester we spent time reflecting on our strengths and weaknesses (and the consequences of those). Today I want you to return to that and reconsider what you identified in relationship to the project you have been developing in the last several weeks.
Questions you may want to consider can include:
- What special skills do you have that help you deal with your area of concern (and/or preexisting programs, agencies, etc. that are already working on that issue)?
- What do you have to offer to your cause? What skills or personal attributes do you need to develop to be effective?
- What have you learned about yourself and your topic in your research? What do you have left to research and learn about?
- What concrete steps could you take to create change in your community? What is inhibiting you from doing so?
Aim for a freewrite on these questions, meaning you write continuously without editing yourself. We will edit your entries later.
