Today we will consider some of the questions and prompts offered in our reading for this week in Chapter 2 of Writing and Community Action. Earlier in the semester we wrote about a turning point in our lives. This week we will consider more specifically a turning point in our relationship to writing. On the surface, this may not seem as "juicy" as the previous prompt. However, the memories we hold are often very telling indicators of how deeply seemingly insignificant things shape who we are.
WRITING PROMPT:
1) Consider "A turning point, a key event, or an encounter that reveal[ed] some aspect of yourself as a...writer" (p. 27). Please use the lists on page 28-29 to help you brainstorm this topic.
2) Begin crafting a personal essay IN WORD that explores this topic. Work on building the tension in the story.
3) When you are done with a draft, go back and convert a few "tell" sentences into "show" passages. (See page 62, "PRACTIVE: Show and Tell" for an example.)
4) In Word, double space, paginate and print. Then cut and paste it to your blog.
