10/14 Symposium at MCNY: Creating Community Using Web 2.0

Metropolitan College of New York invites you to a Symposium:
“Creating Community with Web 2.0: Using Social Media in the Classroom”
October 14, 2011, 1 to 3 pm, Room 11N

The information super age has transformed how we live and learn. This symposium will explore the ways that Web 2.0 and Social Media have a pedagogical place in the classroom. The Keynote Speakers for the Symposium are Drs. Ximena Gallardo and Jason Smith, faculty members at LaGuardia Community College, presenting on “Community 2.0: Teaching and Learning Networks,” outlining the progressive and effective program at their college to implement social media more actively in the classroom, and to connect classes, programs, and faculty through these technologies. In addition to their presentation, Drs. Gallardo and Smith will conduct a hands-on workshop with MCNY faculty.

The Symposium will also include presentations from faculty, staff, and students from programs and departments across the college, including: Lynn Sally, ACSHS Professor: “Learning and Writing in 140 Characters or Less: Twitter as Purpose-Centered Education”; Rachel Yager, Business School Professor: “Learning Beyond the Classroom: Social Media Intelligence for Business”; and Don Johnson, BPS Student: “How Social Networking and Internet Technology are Changing Education.” Diwata Fonte, Department of Information Technology, will be our moderator.
